Frequently Asked Questions
Do you have an age limit?
Yes. I generally will not paint children under the age of 3 years. I will however, at my discretion, paint children between the ages of 2 and 3 years, but will usually only offer a small cheek or arm design, or a simplified full face design. I will only paint children who can sit still ON THEIR OWN, and can ask for their chosen design themselves.
There is no upper age limit!
Are you insured? Are you CRB checked?
Yes. I hold £5m Public Liability Insurance covering me for face painting and glitter tattoos. I can provide a copy of this to you upon request, at the time of booking.
I do hold a CRB enhanced disclosure for school volunteering Batley Boys ARLFC volunteering and the local children' centre, however legally this is only applicable to the role and location it was applied for. Face painters are not required by law to hold a CRB as we are not (and should not be) left in sole charge of children. You are welcome to see a copy of my CRB if you insist on this.
What type of paints do you use? Is there a risk of allergies?
All paints and glitter tattoos components are manufactured for cosmetic use, and as such are safe for use on skin. Note however that some people will experience allergic reactions, it is advised for you to request a test patch to be carried out if you are at all unsure of any possible allergies. Allergies associated with glitter tattoos are linked to the adhesive used on the stencil (similar to medical plasters) and the glue used in application, this is rare but is possible.
Are there some people you won't paint?
Yes, any child under the age of 2 years, plus anyone showing signs of possible skin infections or other medical problems that may pose the risk of cross infection to others or cause increased problems for the customer (such as with eczema or acne). In these cases a painted design on the arm or a glitter tattoo will be offered instead. This is to help minimise the possibility of cross-infection to other clients and to avoid causing further distress and discomfort to the person being painted.
How do I remove the paint? How do I remove a glitter tattoo?
To remove face paints simply use good old soap and water, and a flannel or sponge! I do not recommend using babywipes for removal as they can cause skin irritation and redness. Note that some slight staining may remain, but will fade quickly and be removed after a few washes - this is perfectly normal! Some colours are simply more stubborn than others!
Glitter tattoos can be removed using 'rubbing' alcohol or baby oil, or by soaking in warm water to soften the glue and gently rubbing to remove.
Will you work outdoors?
Yes I will, but it is your responsibility to provide suitable shelter from rain and shade from the sun, to protect myself and my equipment. I retain the right to refuse to work if you have not provided the shelter/shade as detailed on my booking form or requested me to provide my own shelter. I do have the use of a gazebo if you cannot provide this yourself, but there will normally be a small additional charge for its use and it can currently only be erected on soft ground (i.e. grass). Note there may also be restrictions on this due to travel arrangements whereby I may not be able to supply shelter myself. Please indicate indoors/outdoors and shelter provision on the booking form.
Do you provide your own tables/chairs?
I can certainly do this (at no extra charge) depending again on travel arrangements, but if you have a table and chairs available for me that would be great! Please indicate requirements on the booking form.
Are there any limitations to glitter tattoos?
Yes. I will not usually apply a glitter tattoo to anyone under the age of 3 years. I cannot apply them anywhere on the face or head for safety reasons.
Aren't glitter tattoos messy to apply?
Yes, a little, due to the glitter. I will try to minimise mess as much as possible, but it may look like a fairy visited with her magic dust!! Any glitter on the floors/furniture will vaccuum up. If this will be a problem please ensure there is an area available that you do not mind getting a bit glittery!
Can we book you for both face painting AND glitter tattoos?
Yes, but be aware that time may be an issue, particularly if you wish for guests to have both face paint and tattoos. I would normally suggest giving guests the choice of either face painting or a glitter tattoo, not both. Please ensure you have booked enough time for me to do both if required. Please note there is an additional charge if you wish for glitter tattoos as the material cost for replacement products is higher than it is for face paints.
How much do you charge?
My standard rate at the moment is £70 for 2 hours. This includes face painting and/or glitter tattoos. I will usually insist on a minimum booking of 2 hours unless very local to me, in which case I may be open to working less than 2 hours for a reduced rate. Additional time can be booked at the rate of £30 per hour, with an additional £5 per hour charge for glitter tattoos. I am happy to discuss package deals for multiple or full day bookings, dependant on travel distances etc. Please contact me for further details.
